About the author

My name is Gregor and I am living in the geographical center of Germany, in Göttingen, with my adorable wife and our two sons.
Since my school time, I am passionated for physics, especially for the relativity theory. The understanding of the behavior of light was fundamental at that time to follow the brilliant ideas of Einstein, which brought me finally to the domain of optics. Hence, I started studying physics and specialized early to the optics. Ultimately, I concluded my study of physics with a PhD. The profound enthusiasm and dedication of my professor at that time, Dr. Herbert Gross, to the area of optical design had hence a significant influence on my future academic trajectory.
Over the past decade, my research has increasingly centered on the domain of optical design of systems. Presently, I am pleased to work as the Senior Optical Designer at Excelitas. The primary focus of my work here is the design of inspection objectives for the ultraviolet range, as well as the design of visual inspection objectives for broadband applications.
Within the last about twenty years, I am coding in different languages (Object Pascal, Python, C# ...). However, my JavaScript skills especially in combination with HTML and CSS files are still limited. I hope to improve here still a bit within the next years. So please consider this site still being in its infancy.

About the project

My idea of this website is to provide a support page for optical designer during their design phase of optical systems. Therefore, I programmed different small applications to which everybody has access from anywhere.
Currently, only ProjectLX is available online. It is an application that allows to extract the geometrical parameter (lens radii, thicknesses, diameter) of a photo/scan/image of on optical design sketch within seconds.

Current projects

  • Project-LX (Version 1.0 - 13.10.2025)
  • Glassmap (not yet started)
  • Design collection (not yet started)
